The word ‘garnet’ emerged from a medieval Latin word, ‘granatus’, which means pomegranate, highlighting its striking resemblance of the red colour. Garnets are commonly found in shades of red, but its vast array of colours ranges from orange, yellow, purple to even vibrant green. In different lighting, some garnets can even change colour from blue to purple. Although the green ones are still part of the garnet family, they are distinguished from the rest with another name - tsavorite.
