7 easy steps to customize your wedding rings

Getting married is like going on an adventure with the one person you plan to spend the rest of your life with. As you embark on this new phase in life, selecting your wedding ring is an intimate part of the relationship, the one piece of  jewellery you will wear daily for the rest of your life. You have the option of picking one that is readily available or to customize the ring to represent your love story. Often, fully customising your ring can turn into a fun project, a piece that could be a future heirloom. If you’ve always wondered how to go about the process, here’s 7 easy steps to prepare for your beginning to forever.

1) Start Early

  • It is important to start early when it comes to customising your dream ring as it may take several weeks or months until final completion.
  • Never underestimate the amount of time needed to plan everything from scratch, as you will need to find a common ground that both your partner and you need to be agreeable to.
  • Couples may have different opinions on what fits best on their big day hence starting earlier allows them to have time to look into small details.

2) Getting Inspiration

  • To get a better understanding of what you and your partner really like in terms of design, seeking opinions and finding inspirations are really the way to go.
  • With accessibility to almost everything on the internet, get inspiration from wedding blogs, wedding related pins on pinterests, or even wedding stories from close friends. Start putting together your pinterest wedding board.
  • Doing sufficient research for your wedding ring customization may open up more ideas leading up to your big day. Getting inspiration simply allows you to have stronger visual cues instead of having the images floating in your heads.

3) Setting a budget

  • Always remember to discuss the budget allocated for the wedding rings with your partner openly before your visit to the jeweler.
  • The budget planned should be something both of you agree on so that it does not create any misunderstanding during this once in a lifetime experience.

Bringing Design To Life

  • This step will also be used as a guide to keep you on track and ensure you do not accidentally go overboard once you start designing your ring.
  • It will also be of great help to your personal jewel consultant to make suggestions and adjustments to your design according to your given budget, as they prioritise certain criteria that are most important to you, such as the carats or the diamond cuts.

4)   Pick your diamond

Pick your diamonds

  • Understand the 4Cs when picking your diamonds so you’re able to make an informed choice when making the selection. Your personal jewel consultant will be able to assist you through that process.
  • The first C is Cut. With a proprietary cut, your diamond will consistently produce magnificent sparkles that are brighter and shinier.

  • The second C is the Carat, and this would affect the price of the diamond. Often mistaken as the size of the diamond, the carat is actually the weight of the diamond.
  • The third C is the Color where you have the choice of choosing diamonds in colours ranging from D(colourless) to K(faint yellow). The more colourless the diamond is, the more valuable it is.

  • The fourth C is the Clarity. This refers to the absence of inclusions and blemishes. When your diamond has less of both inclusions and blemishes, the outlay of the diamond shine will be flawless and will shine brilliantly everytime.
  • Lastly, select your diamond cut(shape)! At HABIB, we have a wide range of cuts for you to be spoiled for choice such as round, oval, pear, princess, cushion, emerald, baguette, heart and marquise cuts. It’s really a matter of preference and choice.

Diamond Cuts

  • If you are looking for other options apart from diamonds, you can explore gemstones to add a little colour to your ring. As your personal jewel consultant, we would recommend selecting from these 3 gemstones; Sapphire, Ruby and Emerald. They are the most ideal due to their hardness of 9 in the MOHs scale (second only to diamonds), especially due to the fact that you will be wearing your ring daily.

5) Choose your metal

  • Typically, engagement rings are made of yellow gold or white gold. However, if you are customizing your ring at HABIB, you have a wide array of metals to choose from.
  • Apart from yellow or white gold, you may consider other metals such as platinum, rose gold, palladium or even, titanium. You have the option of selecting 22K,18K or 9K for your rings.
  • When selecting a ring casing to go with the diamond of your choice, we recommend selecting a ring with 18k(750) or 9K(375) gold content so that it will be sturdy enough to hold the precious diamonds in place.

6) Decide on your setting and design

  • When you have a beautiful diamond, you will need a beautiful home for it to settle comfortably in. There are various settings that are made available to give your diamonds a perfect structure!

  • To customize your rings, the casting process is needed as everything is made to order and your chosen metal will be molded into your desired shape.
  • Always allocate some time - at least a month or two - before your big day for further ring adjustments.
  • Some adjustments that we should look into would be are resizing of the rings, the end color of the settings, the placement of the diamonds and also the casings’ grip.
