Those born in August are fortunate to have this yellowish-green to brownish-green gemstone as their birthstone. It can only be formed under extreme conditions and is often found in hardened lava that carries it from deep within earth’s mantle and rarely, meteorites. Perhaps this is why it is believed to instill power and influence in the wearer. The word peridot itself comes from the Arabic ‘faridat’, meaning gem. Peridots can also be given to celebrate a 16th wedding anniversary.
